We celebrated our new state of the art HQ with our Horizon Family.
By Ben Hirst, Managing Director
Here at Horizon, we put people first – but it’s not just our customer who we’ll always go above and beyond for. Our team and Horizon family are at the heart of what makes us a success. That’s why we’ve recently moved into our state-of-the-art, purpose built headquarters in Wakefield to give everyone everything they need to get the job done. It was something to celebrate – so that’s what we did.
On a crisp autumnal Saturday, we threw open our doors to all our team and their families for fun, food and drinks on us. With clear skies, big and little guests alike took to the skies on top of our access platforms (safety paramount as always). Kids were set loose on the mega slide, littles ones tumbled in soft play, and the oldies were challenged on the bucking bronco and penalty shoot-out.
As always, remembering that we’re raised locally played a big part in our celebrations. In 2013, our wider team chose two charities, one local to each depot in Warrington and Wakefield, to support. We saw the day as a great opportunity to raise more funds for our communities – and with a raffle and some star baking to inspire us we emptied our pockets so £300 could be sent to Wakefield Hospice and The Christie.
It was a day designed with fun in mind, but was also a chance to provide family and friends the opportunity to get to know a little more about what we do here at Horizon and share our story so far. We’ve come a long way in the last eight years and it’s a testament to the commitment and pride of our team. When we have a new role available, we put the word out that there’s ‘expertise needed’. That’s because each one of our Horizon family is talented, focussed on our customers, and dedicated to helping us further on our journey as a leader in powered access.
Our new headquarters is part of our five-year expansion plan and gives our team the tools to get the job done, even better than before. We decided to build our new HQ from scratch – including offices and a distribution centre – so that it was tailored to our needs. We now boast substantial office space, a spacious yard, and the capacity to house a growing fleet of 1000 work at height platforms. We’ve even got our own industry-leading IPAF training centre, so our in-house experts can provide the highest level of training. It’s got a handful of green credentials too, with solar panels, an air recirculating heating system, high levels of insulation and electric car charging points. That way, our environment is cared for along with our team and customers.
Most importantly, though, it’s a great place to work in; after all, it was with our team members in mind that we decided to take this step. After its success, next on the horizon is a plan to build another centre of excellence for our Warrington depot – so our whole Horizon family can benefit from those little details that make a big difference to both us and our customers.
