As you may well know, Horizon Platforms are no stranger to getting involved in the community, and last week was certainly no exception. Horizon’s very own Finance Director, Lindsay Tarrant, went back to school to help A-level students at Heckmondwike Grammar School take part in their annual Challenge of Management Conference.
The aim of the three-day conference was to give Year 12 students an insight in to what life is like in business. The students are encouraged to develop the team building and decision making skills involved in all aspects of running a small business by taking part in a business game. At the same time, the students are presented with additional time-pressured activities, presentations and negotiations which keep the event competitive, yet enjoyable.
The team at Horizon Platforms were keen for Lindsay to take part in the programme to assist the students to develop their leadership ability and business skills, which are the qualities fundamental to Horizon’s own culture and the continued development of our local and national economy. Our strong belief is that the key to a successful business is employing and developing a motivated and well trained team.Lindsay, who took on the role of Financial Director within Horizon in 2011, commented:
“I thoroughly enjoy working in a business environment and encouraging people to reach their full potential. My own children have benefited from the excellent teaching and outlook at Heckmondwike Grammar School and I was delighted to be asked to help out by giving back to the students who are future business leaders”.
Lynne Morton, Conference Co-ordinator at Heckmondwike Grammar School, praised the involvement of the many advisers and companies who have freely given their time and experience to help students learn about management in a competitive world.
We would like to thank Heckmondwike Grammar School for the opportunity to take part in the Challenge of Management Conference, as well as the students for their hard work.
School will soon be “Out for Summer” as students will shortly be taking a well deserved break, but I can’t say the same for Horizon Platforms!
